I want to stay in Slovakia and try something new - Mr. Damien Delmeire from the Netherlands
Our team always insists that our interns try new things, and are not afraid to try their hand at a new field of career prospects. You never know what's waiting for you further down the road if you don't take a step forward! And today we want to tell you a story about an intern Damien Delmeire from the Netherlands.
Damien came to Slovakia from the Netherlands and was a finance and accounting student. He took the position of Customer Service Trainee in a world-leading company working on intelligent buildings, creating safe, healthy, and sustainable spaces to help customers achieve their sustainability goals and power their mission. Damien’s team provides service for the customers by making and processing orders in the SAP program on PC. Therefore they keep customers up to date with their orders and certain other factors. All tasks were aimed at keeping in touch with customers, being the first to answer all questions and suggestions, and being the needed part of the team to keep the fine-tuned mechanism running and continue to produce results.
He also paid special attention to his corporate atmosphere and the people surrounding him at the office and on work assignments. "I was not afraid of the fact that I have a lot of tasks, yes, of course, sometimes because of this I had to work much faster to have time to complete everything, but again this happened very rarely. Moreover, I could always count on the support of my colleagues. I had the feeling that I can rely on someone and my co-workers would always be there to help me out if I struggled with some issue regarding a specific case.“
Another nice part of the internship was the very flexible work schedule. "I can always expect to have a lunch and rest break during the working day, I remember taking my lunch with me and going out to the Danube riverbank to recharge and gain energy in order to continue further with my necessary tasks. Also, when I started to fully realize and understand the specifics of the job, I was allowed to work online sometimes and it didn't interfere with my results at all".
Damien has had the opportunity to travel extensively in Slovakia and abroad, he says it has been one of his favorite things to do in his free time, we asked him what is the difference between Slovaks and people in the Netherlands after all "Slovakia is way more quiet than the Netherlands, also the people are way more generous and respectful. I really liked here a lot". Also, Damien shared with us that the Christmas holiday was the hardest part for him during the internship. He needed to stay in Bratislava without his family and he really missed them, but nevertheless, he had a merry holiday in the mountains hiking with his girlfriend.
Nevertheless, Damien was very determined to find a full-time job in Slovakia and to stay here, because his positive experience made him realize what direction he wanted to go further and that he is ready for new challenges and accomplishments here in Slovakia.
