Professional Growth Abroad: Antonina’s internship in Slovakia
For Antonina Voroniuk, a student from Chernivtsi National University in Ukraine, six months in Slovakia became more than just an internship—it became a life-changing experience. From professional growth to cultural discovery, her time as a Customer Service Trainee at Johnson Controls was packed with lessons, friendships, and unforgettable moments.
At work, Antonina managed customer email communication, coordinated logistics, and utilized tools like Salesforce and JDE to carry out daily tasks. “I really strengthened my ability to resolve customer inquiries effectively and became more confident in professional English communication,” she shared. The internship wasn’t just about following a routine—it was about becoming adaptable, efficient, and resourceful.
What truly elevated her experience was the team environment. “My colleagues were always there when I needed help. They didn’t just answer questions—they created a positive and friendly workplace that made me feel welcome,” she said. Participating in team activities and being part of a close-knit group became one of her favorite aspects of working life.
Of course, like any meaningful experience, there were challenges. Time management during quieter workdays and the first few days of settling in posed some difficulty. “Adjusting at the start was a bit tough, but it got better quickly,” Antonina admitted. She also navigated remote university exams during her internship—a concern she eventually overcame successfully.
Outside the office, Antonina made the most of her free time. She explored new cities, joined dance classes, attended youth events, and deepened friendships through shared experiences and team-building activities. “Slovakia’s transport system made travel super easy,” she noted. What surprised her most was the cultural difference in pace—Slovakians seemed to embrace life more slowly and mindfully, compared to the fast-track mindset often seen back home.
As she prepares to return to Ukraine, Antonina isn’t slowing down. Her next plan? Apply her newly gained skills at a Ukrainian company and then, perhaps, dive into another international mobility experience. “This internship gave me motivation, clarity, and the confidence to keep learning,” she said.
Her advice to future interns? “Do your research, get an ISIC card for discounts, and find local hobbies—it’s the best way to connect and enjoy your time.”
Antonina's story proves that with the right mindset and support, internships abroad can offer more than just work experience—they open doors to discovery, connection, and personal transformation.
